What will I learn?

This course will cover:

  • Supporting children and young people with additional support needs (ASN)
    This is an interactive and engaging session that will give you the knowledge, skills, and tools to work with children who have ASN.
  • Storytelling
    This workshop will offer practical ideas for engaging children through storytelling to promote language and literacy.
  • Learning for sustainability
    This session will cover how learning for sustainability is understood and implemented by education and community learning to support the future workforce.
  • Trauma informed practice
    This session will cover becoming trauma informed, it will provide the skills and strategies of how to support children with adverse childhood experiences.
  • STEAM in early years
    This session will cover a range of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics workshops to develop STEAM skills.
  • Autism awareness
    This session will cover what autism is and how it affects children and young people, how to identify and address the challenges facing those with autism and strategies to engage positively with and support those with autism.
  • Child protection
    This session will cover what child protection is, legislation in Scotland, national guidance for child protection in Scotland, PVG, who is responsible for keeping a child safe from harm, types of abuse and neglect, signs of abuse, what to do if a child discloses abuse, the effects of abuse, risk assessment, and Child B significant case review (neglect).

This course will be delivered on Teams in seven online sessions of three hours. Dates as follows: 20 and 27 August, 3, 10, 17, 24 September and 1 October.
