Description

This is a hands on practical course where you learn; • About the art of shearing and the reasons why farmers do so, • Preparing sheep for clipping, • Get hands on learning all about shearing equipment/maintenance, • The different breeds of sheep and the fleeces each breed has and why, • How to wet felt a sheep fleece to make a cosy, decorative rug that you will be able to take home. Lots of opportunity for questions and discussions throughout the day. Come along and meet the sheep who will be providing their wonderful fleeces. As well as producing wool for the many clothing and home products we are familiar with it has many organic, sustainable uses; we sell directly off the farm to local flower farmers along with gardeners who use it to mitigate weeds, improve soil quality organically and maintained soil moisture and temperature throughout the year. We also provide fleeces to local business' for felting/artisan material. Based at our farm in Perthshire. Suitable for all abilities. Over 18 years only. 4.5hr course (dates TBC once we have list of participants) refreshments included in price.
