Have you been asking yourself:- How can I prepare for changes in agricultural policy? How can I make my croft more sustainable:- economically & environmentally? What can I learn from others to adapt my crofting practice - for climate change, biodiversity, and more? What resources are available to support me? Answers to these and other questions in our in-person, interactive two day training course! Day 1:- AM. Croft visit to the Woodland Crofter (Andy Robinson) Langamull, Dervaig to talk all things trees and growing on crofts. Lunchtime visit from Species on the Edge PM. Dervaig Village Hall - RPID - your chance to ask your burning questions about agricultural support and the Whole Farm Plan Day 2:- AM. Creich Hall and croft visit to the Lazy Cow Cafe & Farm Shop (Sandra Power/Iain MacDougall), Kintra, learn about their croft, their livestock and their croft business; Including soil sampling with Harrie Burney. PM. Croft land management - conservation grazing, biodiversity, habit management, and much more! We are looking to arrange lift-sharing and/or community transport to assist with travel. Members:- £50; Non-members:- £80 This includes morning & afternoon refreshments and lunch. The course will be co-designed with participants choosing modules from the following topics: (i) Land Management; (ii) Animal Management; (iii) Horticulture/Silviculture/Agro-forestry; (iv) Economic Sustainability. Once you sign up for the course, you will have the option of completing a survey to indicate your preferences for the topics delivered. We cannot guarantee that you will get all your preferences, depending on who else signs up, but we will do our best. NB. If cost is a barrier to you attending this course, please contact us. Objectives: • To lobby policymakers within government to ensure the crofters' voice and concerns are heard at all levels. • To provide information, training and advice to crofters through publications, webinars, events, courses and our advice service. • To support new entrant crofters to understand the history and value of crofting, to learn from their experienced peers, and to understand their obligations.
The Women in Agriculture Practical Training Fund has been established by Scottish Government to support the personal development of women, providing them with additional skills to progress their careers and employment opportunities in Scottish agriculture beyond their current role.
The Next Generation Practical Training Fund has been established by Scottish Government with an aim to support those relatively new to agriculture, by providing the opportunity for skills development and training on the practicalities of agricultural practice as well as wider business and sustainability skills, in order to help them secure, sustain and progress their careers.
