This course enhances the skills and knowledge of those already working in maternity support or is a great addition to university applications for midwifery.

This course is partially funded. You will be required to pay a deposit once you have been accepted on the course. Depending on eligibility and previous study, you may be able to apply for SAAS
This maternity care assistant course is made up of three units: there is an introductory unit that will introduce you to the communication skills, values and qualities required of the care worker, you will also learn about inter-professional working and the importance of collaboration in the delivery of effective person-centred care. There are two units which focus on maternal health and well-being and foetal health and well-being.
You will learn about the physical changes that occur during pregnancy and immediately following birth, including the development of the fetus and antenatal screening processes. In addition, the course will look at obstetric emergencies and appropriate assessment and treatment.
You will also investigate the role of the maternity support worker in supporting the woman/person and baby.
Finally, you will learn about hospital and community-based maternity care in relation to supporting maternal and foetal health and well-being.
You will develop the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to deliver effective care under the guidance of the registered practitioner.
