Description

Introduction to English Paper Piecing – Coasters – Sunday 19th January – Morning 10:30am – 1pm

Tutor – Catriona Brown

This class provides an introduction to the traditional patchwork technique of English Paper Piecing! This is a relaxing and meditative technique that is done entirely by hand.

We will be making simple pieced hexagon coasters using the technique and backing them with felt. There will be a variety of pieced hexagon designs to choose from, you could always choose to join them together into a larger piece rather than make coasters. We will start by discussing fussy cutting then cut out our fabric and baste it onto the cardboard templates. We will then sew our pieces together. The aim will be to do a simple design first then make it into a coaster. If there is time we can then get started on some more complicated designs. All paper pieces are included, there will be enough that you can take some home to make a variety of coaster designs. You will need to supply fabric and felt and have a suitable glue stick, all of these are available in the shop.

By the end of the class you will have learned how to English Paper Piece and have at least one completed or nearly completed coaster. There will be plenty of discussion of other patterns and advice on your next project if desired.

This class is suitable for complete beginners.
