The RSN provides a range of embroidery classes for all levels and techniques.
This course is available on the Royal School of Needlework website.
In this class, you will create a delicate Nigella flower and your choice of Goldwork initial, both mounted on a box lid. This project will introduce you to the art of embroidery and Box Making, making it perfect for beginners with no prior experience.
You will:
· Craft the Nigella flower petals using a mix of thread colours with chain stitch and French knots, then add intricate spangle and rough purl details.
· Use long freehand stitches to create the fine leaves of the Nigella flower.
· Design your initial with pearl purl, employing bricked back stitch shading to add depth and dimension.
· Learn box construction, including cutting, covering, connecting the panels with a curved needle and mounting your embroidery on the box lid.
This beginner’s class will guide you through each step, ensuring you gain confidence in your stitching and box-making skills. By the end of the class, you'll have a beautifully embroidered Nigella flower and Goldwork initial proudly displayed on a handcrafted box. Please note that cutting and other equipment is not included as part of the kit. Unfortunately, the original fabric was discontinued but a very close alternative will be provided.
You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
Please note this is an onsite class which will run from 10am-4pm on Sunday 9 March at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
