This qualification supports a person to become a ‘Developing Leader’, who would be confident participating in the leadership of groups of other learners in Forest School and outdoor activities.

This award at Level 5 consolidates knowledge and skills of being in forest and outdoor spaces and supports the learner in developing the learning of others. The approach to learning is to focus on the person holistically within the forest and outdoor environment for their mutual benefit. What is involved? - The Forest School ethos and instruction to learning pedagogy - Relevant links to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code (SOAC) - Health and Safety in the forest environment - Ecology, seasons, lifecycles and habitats - ID Skills – Flora and fauna - Introduction to fire lighting - Conservation skills - Tool use, safety, and maintenance - Effective use of knots and cord - Creating items from natural materials - Supporting others in a range of woodland-based activities Course dates: Start date: 1 May 2025 (online, self-paced study from this date) On campus dates: 27-29 May 2025

The Future Forestry Training Fund, was established by Scottish Forestry to support those relatively new to forestry, by providing the opportunity to develop their skills relating to the practicalities of forestry practice as well as wider business and sustainability skills, in order to help them secure, sustain and progress their careers.
