The RSN provides a range of embroidery classes for all levels and techniques.
This course is available on the Royal School of Needlework website.
This is a form of Whitework embroidery (Schwalmer Weisstickerei) that developed in the Schwalm region of central Germany. It started as a form of surface embroidery in the late 17th century, but during the following centuries the enclosed areas were opened up by withdrawing threads and then decorated with pulled thread stitches. Its designs traditionally have simple motifs of Tulips, Hearts, Birds and Circles and are stitched with white threads on a white linen fabric.
You will have the choice of stitching it with the traditional white threads and linen or with Ecru threads on a Raw linen. Once the design is finished the piece of embroidery will be finished with a Pea-hole hem.
Some previous experience of counted thread techniques such as Cross Stitch s advisable for this class.
You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
Please note this is an onsite class which will run from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
