The RSN provides a range of embroidery classes for all levels and techniques.
This course is available on the Royal School of Needlework website.
During this course you will create a beautiful design of one of the UK’s most iconic and characterful birds, the Puffin. The class will begin with learning and practicing using paint and coloured pencils to build up the background of the design, first on paper before moving on to create the ‘real thing’ on cotton fabric.
The course will then continue with tuition on Silk Shading, or ‘painting with a needle’, to build up the texture and colour of the bird. This will include stitch length, direction, density and colour blending. You will also learn how and when to use split stitch and satin stitch and how these can be utilised to create the eye and beak of the Puffin.
You will be provided with a class kit including all of the materials required to complete this stunning hand embroidery design including Derwent Chromaflow pencils, fabric paint, DMC stranded cotton threads, needles and cotton fabric with the outline of the preset design already transferred on for you.
You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
Please note this is an onsite class which will run from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
