The aim of this two-day course is to develop your understanding of the principles of scanning and to gain knowledge of a sound ovine scanning technique. With a combination of both theory and extensive hands-on practical training.

The course will equip you with the knowledge and method to pregnancy scan sheep, it covers all aspects of ovine pregnancy diagnosis including identifying the choices of equipment (scanners) which are available and suitable for ovine pregnancy diagnosis. Knowing if your ewes are in lamb and if they are carrying single or multiple lambs plays a very important part in flock management. Identifying the ewes carrying multiple lambs allows management groups to be formed and fed accordingly. Know the importance of Biosecurity: having adequate working practices in place to prevent the introduction and or spread of infections. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to - Identify and purchase the correct equipment - Know the correct preparation of ewes to give effective identification of pregnancies and identify any embryo problems - Identity ewes carrying multiple lambs which, allows management groups to be formed to allow correct feed management. - Know the importance of Biosecurity: having adequate working practices in place to prevent the introduction and or spread of infections. Ensure what hygiene precautions need to be adhered to between farms. - Recognize notifiable diseases within your flock - Scan ewes in a consistent manner

We work closely in developing our Professional Foot Trimming course with ‘The Dairy Training Centre’ in Friesland Holland and the NACFT.
