This course provides a comprehensive introduction to sustainable parasite management and the practical use of faecal egg counts (FECs). Learners will gain a working knowledge of the parasites affecting livestock and equines and how to identify them using FEC techniques. Through a combination of classroom-based learning and practical sessions, the course covers parasite lifecycles and pathogenicity, immunity, and the growing issue of anthelmintic resistance. Learners will develop the skills to collect, store and prepare samples, carry out faecal egg counts, identify parasite eggs under the microscope, and interpret results. The course also explores the responsible use of anthelmintics and the principles of targeted, selective treatment to support effective and sustainable parasite control. Learners leave with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to make informed parasite management decisions, supported by comprehensive course materials and ongoing access to a dedicated support community.
