The H&W Mulcher training course (Unit 217) is aimed at those working in the forestry industry who need to prepare, drive and manoeuvre a mulcher/flail
This course is available on the H&W Training website.
The course looks at identifying the hazards and risks associated with the working area, the proposed work and the machine, as well as current health and safety legislation. You will be carrying out pre and post-start checks to ensure correct operation of the machine and safety of the operator, and then manoeuvring and operating the machine on-site. Cleaning, servicing and storing the mulcher / flail is also covered.
As you will have achieved the Level 2 Award in Forest Machine Operations (Base Machinery), with your required endorsements, you may progress to undertake training and assessment with other specific forest machinery such as the forwarder, skidder and cable crane.
H&W Training, based in Dumfries (South West Scotland), and with training sites in Cumbria and Newcastle (North England), are fully qualified NPTC Assessors and LANTRA training providers covering the whole of the UK and Ireland.
We provide training courses for individuals, business or groups who need to expand their skills in certain areas for the job they are in, or for themselves.
The Future Forestry Training Fund, was established by Scottish Forestry to support those relatively new to forestry, by providing the opportunity to develop their skills relating to the practicalities of forestry practice as well as wider business and sustainability skills, in order to help them secure, sustain and progress their careers.
The Women in Forestry Practical Training Fund, was established by Scottish Forestry to support the personal development of women, providing them with additional skills to progress their careers and employment opportunities in forestry beyond their current role. With the support of Future Woodlands Scotland we are delighted to be able to reopen for applications.
