Description

This Level 6 course provides students with an introduction to the construction industry with a specific focus on new sustainable building technologies that are being used in the wider industry, including practical applications.

The course will give students a multitude of interdisciplinary skills to prepare them for the world of work or further academia. It will incorporate drawing skills, calculations, and design elements, which is supplemented by their work-based learning. The course will simulate 'live' projects, where possible, and simulated activity when required, to help students put into practice what they are learning with industry and combine the theory with practice.

The course is specifically designed to ensure the students receive contextualised learning to improve their literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills. All related assignments will be directly linked to the practical units, with research and presentation skills being encouraged. This will allow students to progress onto various pathways, including Construction Graduate Apprenticeships.

Learners are likely to benefit more readily from the study of the award if they enter with a general and broad academic ability showing an aptitude at SCQF level 4 and above for English, Mathematics and other related technical and graphical subjects.
