Description

A forest garden greenhouse is a protected growing system, using the soil as a heat storage medium, to create a subtropical to tropical climate to grow tender crops. Since we built our own forest garden greenhouse there has been a lot of interest from folk wanting to build their own. Parts of this course may also be suitable for people interested in forest gardening in a subtropical climate. Forest garden greenhouse systems have been around for some years, on varying scales from 10 sq metres upwards. They entail building a special soil heat storage/release system (often called a climate battery) underneath a greenhouse structure. The principles of the ‘climate battery’ system, air flow systems etc. are just the same, whatever the scale you are considering. This online course explains the principles of a forest garden greenhouse, how to choose a site, how to design and install the climate battery, how to integrate water use and mnoitoring systems, and how to choose the plants. There are 7 online course episodes with accompanying pdf notes.
