You’ll be introduced to two types of harnesses – driving and working- for you to become familiarised with. After learning the names of the different parts, their functions and how to check them, you'll learn how to put them on a horse. There is plenty of time to ask questions and get used to using the correct terminology. You’ll then get to meet our ponies, prepping them with a brush down and foot check before harnessing them yourself. You'll then have the chance to drive the ponies, learning how to use long reins safely, the different commands and aids. At the end of the first day, you'll be able to identify the correct harness for the kind of work you'd like to do, names the parts, understand their function, and correctly fit them on a horse. You'll have basic long reining skills which you'll practice and develop on Day 2, learning not only how to carry out the manoeuvres safely, but how to teach them to your horse or pony. You'll leave with firm knowledge and skills, tips on training your horse to harness and suggestions for next steps in your learning - we only provide entry level learning and receive no commission or benefit of any kind from your onward training providers. All of our courses have limited attendees so you'll have plenty of time to ask questions specific to your requirements. We can also provide camping at an additional cost.
