What will I learn?

You will be able to apply the main common practices and techniques of horticulture and landscaping, drawing on advanced and specialised knowledge, and using specialised professional skills and practices. You will act with significant autonomy in some activities, taking responsibility for the supervision of others or the management of work and resources, and will have to evaluate key aspects of your own performance. 

You will develop your skills in problem solving, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation, and how to develop innovative solutions to a variety of unpredictable problems. 

You will develop knowledge and skills in a range of subject areas including: 

  • Soils and plant nutrition 
  • Plant protection: Integrated approaches 
  • Hardy ornamental nursery stock 
  • Horticultural growing media 
  • Landscape management and maintenance 
  • Lawn construction and maintenance 
  • Parks, gardens, and public open spaces 
  • Plants for gardens: Specialised plantings 
  • Retailing of plants 
  • Plants and habitats: Ecology and conservation
