Description

The 3-day course is designed to allow you to acquire the skills and knowledge to AI your own cows. In order to carry out Do It Yourself (DIY) Artificial Insemination you must have completed a DEFRA Approved training course, All aspects of AI are covered, including anatomy and physiology, legislation, safe handling of Liquid Nitrogen and semen straws, thawing procedures and the practical AI technique. After gaining the technique on abattoir specimens or models, you will practise the skill on live cows, on farm. This on-farm environment gives a very relaxed training atmosphere. Assessment of the technique is done by ultrasound examination. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to: - Know the legislation governing AI in the UK - Using correct technique, pass the AI gun through the cervix of abattoir specimens or models and relate this to the theory, before progressing onto safely performing AI in live cows to DEFRA approved standards - Name the key features of female bovine reproductive anatomy - Know the two phases of the oestrus cycle. Follicular and Luteal - Know the behavioural signs of oestrus and how this relates to the oestrus cycle - Understand the relationship between timing of insemination and reproductive success - Practice safe and correct semen handling technique - Carry out safe handling and maintenance of a semen storage flask - Identify key anatomical features on an abattoir specimen or model - Understand the safe use of Liquid Nitrogen and how to carry out safe handling of Liquid Nitrogen - Achieved a level of competence with AI technique - The importance of Record Keeping

About Embryonics Ltd

Provider Avatar

Embryonics is a well established, recognised and highly experienced UK wide bovine embryo transfer service and farmer and vet training provider. Over the years we have run training courses for both farmers and farm animal veterinary CPD courses all over the UK, Europe and further afield and more recently ran a range of courses for a delegation of Nigerian farmers. Our courses have high practical content and are designed so that you leave the course with both the confidence and the practical skills to take back to your farm or vet practice. We are a Lantra approved training organisation and work with many of the UK agricultural colleges and provide Farm Skills training courses. We receive great feedback from our students and many of our bookings come from recommendations – have a look at our testimonial page. We run regular courses at locations throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and are happy to arrange bespoke courses at your own farm. We also have a bespoke training farm in Cheshire where many of our courses take place. Our tutors have a wealth of experience either as vets, farmers or farm technicians. Our first overseas instructor, Pieter Kloosterman, instructs the ‘Dutch 5 Step Method’ on the Professional Foot Trimming Course. We work closely in developing our Professional Foot Trimming course with ‘The Dairy Training Centre’ in Friesland Holland and the NACFT.
