Students will learn skills and techniques necessary to create precious metal jewellery. The focus will be on learning and developing practical jewellery making skills. Students will also be encouraged to develop their own creative ideas and will be taught how to translate these ideas into finished, 3D pieces of jewellery. The course will cover basic areas such as metal forming, piercing, soldering, stone setting, jewellery design and CAD.  By the end of the course students will have produced a substantial body of work and have gained confidence and skill to work with precious metals and produce their own individual style of jewellery.

Workshop and Metal

You will be working in a well-equipped workshop, with your own individual bench space and access to all the necessary tools and machinery.  Copper and brass will be provided for the students to work with. Copper and brass are inexpensive metals with very similar working properties to precious metals. Working with them will enable students to build up a level of skill and confidence before progressing to silver, if they so desire.

Applicants should aim for 3 National 5 passes or equivalent, preferably including Art. Applicants may also be asked to show examples of their work, particularly drawing, at interview which will help determine their level of experience.

Applications to the course are welcome from adults returning to education who may not possess the entry requirements.
