This introductory course will provide a general introduction to the biology, ecology and field-based identification of the most common moss species associated with peatlands. The course will be hands-on and combine classroom and field-based elements and provide tools for trainees to develop their own identification skills beyond the course. Topics covered indoors and onsite will include: * Introduction to bryophyte biology and taxonomy * Introduction to keys and common moss species in peatland locations * Field-based identification of common species of bog bryophytes * Basic microscopic skills for bryophyte identification.

The Peatland Training Fund, was established by NatureScot Peatland ACTION to support those already working in peatland restoration or keen to start, by providing the opportunity to develop their skills and to grow and develop in the sector.
